2008 Annual SBSC Invitational Tournament Rules

Rules of the Game:  All games will be played under the laws set by F.I.F.A, consistent with the hosting agreement, related youth soccer rules and modifications provided below.

ALL DIVISIONS WILL PLAY 25 MINUTE HALVES

Player Equipment and Field Regulations:  Soccer equipment must comply with F.I.F.A. laws.  No jewelry can be worn.  Shin guards are mandatory.  No rigid casts or splints are allowed.  Knee braces, if worn, must be covered completely.

Players’ numbers must coincide with numbers on the roster.  Duplicate numbers are not allowed.   Players may only play for one team.  The home team is listed first on the schedule.  In case of a uniform conflict, the home team is expected to change to an alternate color.

Substitution:  Unlimited substitution, subject to the referee’s permission, is allowed.

·         Prior to a goal kick by either team

·         Prior to a throw-in

·         At the beginning of the second half or overtime periods

·         After an injury, with equal opportunity for the other team

·         After a referee’s caution

Conduct:  Coaches, players and spectators are required to conduct themselves within the Law & Spirit of the Game. Offensive language or conduct will not be tolerated.  The tournament Committee may suspend either individuals or teams for offensive behavior.  The South Brunswick Soccer Club participates in SAGE, (Set A Good Example).  We employ a zero tolerance policy.

Players, coaches or anyone affiliated with the team that is ejected will be suspended for at least one additional game and possibly more at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.  The Committee may impose a suspension for cumulative yellow cards.  No protests or appeals will be entertained.  Severe misconduct will result in players or entire teams being asked to leave the tournament without a refund.

Determination of Flight standings for Divisions 1 through 4:  In preliminary games, each team is awarded three (3) points for a win, one(1) point for a tie and zero (0) points for a loss.  Forfeited games will be declared a 2-0 score.  The tournament committee may reschedule any games to insure equal play.  No team that has forfeited a game will be permitted to advance beyond the initial round regardless of points that team accumulated.

The flight winner will be the team with the most points.  In the event of a tie, the division winner will be determined in accordance with the following tie-breaking criteria:

1)

Head to head competition (does not apply in case of a tie among more than two teams).

2)

Fewest goals allowed.

3)

Most goals scored (up to a maximum of 5 per game).

4)

Record against common opponents.

5)

Penalty kicks (if two or more teams are tied, the Tournament Committee will randomly select teams for the initial shootout(s).  The winner of the initial shootout round proceeds to the final shootout with the team that received a bye in the initial round.

Note:  For 4 team flights, standings after 3 games will be used to determine a playoff game for the flight winner.  The top 2 teams will play, the winner will be awarded 1st place, the loser 2nd.  If playoff game is a tie, refer to point system & tie-breaker rules above.

The 3rd & 4th place teams play a consolation game and cannot displace the 2nd place team.

Note:  For 3 team flights, standings after the 2 games played within the flight count towards determination of a playoff game for flight winner.  The remaining game is played against a team in another flight and therefore does not count in the standings.  The top 2 teams will play, the winner will be awarded 1st place, the loser 2nd.  If playoff game is a tie, refer to point system & tie-breaker rules above.  The 3rd place team plays a consolation game against the 3rd place team of the other flight and cannot displace the 2nd place team.

Note: Division 5 & 6 are non-results oriented.  All participating players U10 and younger will receive a participation medal.

General:

  • 80% registration refund if Tournament Officials, for any reason, cancel tournament.

  • The Tournament Committee reserves the right to decide on all matters and its interpretation of these rules are final.  No protests will be allowed.

  • All teams are expected to shake hands after each match.  Teams are encouraged to exchange patches/pins at the end of each match.

Rules described above are in addition to the provisions in the Hosting Agreement.
